London 1818: a secret love affair begins between 23 year-old English poet, John Keats (Ben Whishaw), and the girl next door, Fanny Brawne (Abbie Cornish), an out-spoken student of high fashion. This unlikely pair begin at odds, he thinking her a stylish minx, while she was unimpressed not only by his poetry but also by literature in general.However, when Fanny heard that Keats was nursing his seriously ill younger brother, her efforts to help touched Keats and when she asked him to teach her about poetry he agreed. The poetry soon became a romantic remedy that worked not only to sort their differences, but also to fuel an impassioned love affair.

When Fanny’s alarmed mother and Keats’ best friend finally awoke to their attachment, the relationship hand an unstoppable momentum. Intensely and helplessly absorbed in each other, the young lovers were swept deeply into powerful new sensations, “I have the feeling as if we’re dissolving,” Keats wrote to her. Together they rode a wave of romantic obsession that only deepened as their troubles mounted.

When Keats fell ill a year later, the two young lovers faced no marriage but separation. In Keats’ own poignant words, “forever panting and forever young.”

This is an amazing film. Based on the (short) life of romantic poet John Keats. I created most of the spot FX for this film including all the doors – and they go through a few too! It was an interesting challenge to make them all sound different and in keeping with the era of the house.

Due for release in December 09. Go see it. It is a special film.

The film Gabriel reveals the battle between good and evil and the fight for the human soul. Set in a dark, dreary purgatory, there is a struggle between Arc and Fallen angels for control over the city of vice, violence and cruelty, and its population of re-born souls. At present, darkness rules and Gabriel, the last of seven Arcs sent to return the light, must assume a human form for the first time to wrestle the midworld away from the hands of the lead fallen angel ‘Sammael’ and his task force of gun toting followers. Gabriel is young, strong an the mightiest warrior since Michael, his predecessor, who has disappeared. Sammael’s victory is assured throughout the film, as Gabriel plays into his hands, falling prey to human emotions, by tracking down and healing the broken Arc angels, including the lost angel “Jade” who has turned to drugs and vice to get by. All Arc’s before him have failed in their mission. Just when you think its getting good for Gabriel, Sammael has one last card to play: the secret of his own past, the knowledge of which could destroy Gabriel forever. In the darkest places of the human soul, this lone arc angel’s battle with his human feelings and emotions will prove as perilous as facing the Fallen.

Wow, what a journey. I was responsible for all sound design and FX on this film.

All the backgrounds and FX were completed over the course of about a year and was an enormous task. Proabably would have been ideal to have additional editors on this film but budget restraints kept it lean and mean.

This film was later nominated for an ASSG award for Sound Design. Pretty happy about that!
